English lacks THESE Russian words! (VIDEO)

These Russian words can be barely translated into English, because they are connected with the Russian soul... and not only! The most Russian American, Tim Kirby, tries to explain what they mean.

1. Тоска

It’s not just a word… It's a whole multitude of feelings. Not just sad, but melancholic, having existential suffering. When you have to wake up early in the morning and you see the dark and gray November outside, and you look from the window and you say тоска…

2. Подвиг

The closest meaning is ‘feat’. But подвиг sounds much stronger in Russian. It is something brave, difficult, and morally important. Russians use this word very seriously, especially when talking about the Great Patriotic War and the sacrifices people made… But, honestly, learning Russian itself is also a 'подвиг'!"

3. Пошлость

‘Пошлость’ is a complex word. It’s about vulgarity, but, at the same time, about banality. I always thought that ‘пошлость’ is when you say cheap, even black humor. Something which is not appropriate in public. Something that a well-mannered person would never say.

This idea of ‘going over the line’ in Russian culture and there is a huge number of expressions and terms related to it including - Череcчур, За гранью, Перебор

But just because Russians want to keep you from going over the line, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Russian Ladies love a bad boy.
