‘ДА’ doesn’t always means ‘YES’!
I’m sure you already know how to say ‘yes’ in Russian - you say the word ‘да’!
But, it’s not that simple! It can be both - a conjunction or a particle! And the meaning can change from 'yes' to ‘and’ and ‘well’, among other meanings.
Moreover, with other words, an entirely different meaning of the entire phrase can emerge! Check out the examples.
And let me give you an extra one with ‘да’ as a conjunction:
- Русские традиционно встречают молодоженов хлебом да солью.
- Russians traditionally greet newlyweds with bread and salt.
